Michael Burnam, MD graduated UCLA medical school in 1972 and later served as the Associate Director of the Coronary Care Unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He co-developed one of the world’s first heart attack tests, was nominated for the Yalow-Berson International Prize in Immunology, and developed and patented more than forty in vitro medical diagnostic tests and devices.

He is a staff cardiologist with Providence Healthcare, Tarzana CA, and the Director of the Cardiology and Pacemaker Clinic at the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging.

He describes himself as the least interesting member of his family. His father Max was an opera singer, the Technical Director of NBC News (Barbara Walters was once Michael’s baby sitter,) and a spy in WWII. His mother was a cabaret dancer and a psychic. Michael considers himself fortunate to be an only child—nobody else to compete with. He enjoys classical music, was the western states accordion champion many moons ago (but doesn’t want anybody to know,) and is a second-degree black belt in karate.

He began writing in 2010, and The Last Stop is his first novel. Four more followed-- an historical memoir, Max (his father’s life,), is out to publishers now represented by agent Susan Crawford, New Hampshire.

Michael describes his writing as timely in an untimely way. Until recently, most publishers of young adult fiction wanted Hunger Games and Twilight Saga, not ET. In that respect, The Last Stop was, until recently, untimely. A father of two sons, Michael fervently believes that our children have been fed too much blood and gore. It’s time for the publishing world to push the pendulum back towards joy and optimism. Michael believes that his writing is a step in that direction.

His first novel, The Last Stop, is a breath of fresh air for young adult fiction, offering a blend of hardcore science and philosophy with just the right dash of humor. Young adult readers will appreciate The Last Stop’s action-packed pace, spectacular visuals, and relatable characters. And yes, it has a happy ending and a sequel. Who says that a feel good story can't be classic Sci Fi?

Michael is married, has two grown sons with successful careers, and two wonderful grandchildren. His wife Jessica writes children's books. After a hard day's work, saving a few lives here and there, Michel looks forward to embracing Jessica and typing on his laptop.
