Etched in Lies

Etched in Lies is the search for the truth, no matter how much it hurts.

It looked like a paper cut, but sixteen-year-old Dylan Lord is discovering just how painful lies can be.
Every lie she tells or hears causes physical pain. It isn't coincidence this started with Jack. He’s there to teach her to be a “Fide”; to feel and heal lies.
She wants to believe nothing is happening. A letter opener sliced her hand, not her mother’s “I love you.” The cuts opening on her arms as she walks through her high school were already there, but it’s not working. Every wound she suffers Jack does too. When a lie rips open across Dylan’s stomach, she must admit she isn't fine.
She never asked for this. She doesn't want to be a walking lie detector, but not all lies can be covered with Band-Aids. The lies she hasn't fixed are spreading across her body, and she isn't the only one suffering. Jack is growing weaker. She has to hear the truth to heal. If she doesn't hear the truth soon, someone is going to die.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! Thought of a bunch of my students ... By Rose Ann M. Fulena on June 13, 2016 Format: Paperback Verified Purchase I read Etched In Lies on a cross country plane trip. I normally read two chapters then don't touch a book again until the night before I come home. Couldn't put it down! Read during both flights and the layover! Great book! Thought of a bunch of my students I'm going to recommend it to too! ~ , Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down... Couldn't stop reading! Was unsure how much I'd like it because I usually like "realistic" books. However this was realistic in an entirely different way! Lies hurt and the truth heals. The way this story unfolds has you hanging on every word and leaves you wanting to know more! It is a great read for young adults AND adults! ~ , Amazon.com

5 Stars: little lies hurt us all, and the big ones can be quite painful By Amazon Customer on December 15, 2015 Format: Paperback Verified Purchase Could not put this book down. Especially for the last hundred or so pages as Dylan works through dealing with the lies which engulf her body. Much like other young adult books, this book can be enjoyed by adult audiences as well. Everyone can relate to the emotions of the main character Dylan as she deals with issues at home, school and with friends much as we did as a teenager not long ago. The book is easy to read, with enough twists and turns to compel further reading, and left this reader reflecting on all the 'little lies' we hear and tell everyday. Congratulations to Ms. Hughes on this novel, I hope she has a followup book in the works. ~ Amazon Customer, Amazon.com

5 Stars: Even though it's YA, this book was engaging as an adult reader. An intriguing premise and well-written characters that I cared about- once I dug in I couldn't put it down! She leaves an opening for a second book... I would definitely like to see what comes next. ~ Amazon Customer, Amazon.com

Imagine feeling every lie that someone tells. Imagine it causing you pain in such a way that your whole body will shake and shiver but you have no idea what is happening to you or why. A simple paper cut could multiply each time you hear a painful lie. Dylan Lord learns through many lessons that are difficult for her to understand that her life as she knows it is one big lie. What would you do if your body became Etched in Lies? Truths, lies, deceptions, fear, hope, friendship, trust and family loyalties and love are at the heart of this novel by A.M. Hughes. What would happen if everyone told the truth? What would happen if and when Dylan gets her own dissimulator to help store and heal the lies? Would you rather hear the truth or live with your life Etched in Lies? What would you do if you were Dylan? A great novel for YA’s and Adults to talk about what happens when we don’t face our own lies and truths.
